I realize this makes me seem like a total germaphobe but I'm really not. I wanted to make this video to show how you can sanitize used makeup you buy or swap for. If you only use your makeup on yourself there really is no need to sanitize the inside of products all time, unless you get an eye infection or such. You don't want to spread it from one eye to the other. If I missed anything or you have and questions, just let me know.

  • You're sanitizing all that stuff but your dog is on your bed? o.o

  • @Yumistation Our dogs sleep with us, but I don't put the blankets or anything they touch on my face. I keep my pillows up and away from them and use a lap type blanket to fold over the edge of the comforter where my face goes.

  • wait wont the alcohol make the eye shadows all with the crusty things on them? and also isn't it gonna burn your eyes if you put it on???

  • @mizzJenniferC The crusty stuff that forms on powder products is caused by oils. Either skin oil or some moisturizers could even cause it. You let the alcohol dry before you apply the shadow, it only takes a few seconds and once dry it completely evaporates so it won't cause you any irritation.

  • technically, you can sanitize the things you mentioned that you can't. I learned on dr. oz that you basically put it in the freezer overnight :)

  • @crazieecool I heard about that, there is a lot of controversy over it. Other scientists are saying that it doesn't kill everything and can actually make some reproduce quicker once the item gets warm again.

  • really great video!!

  • dont take this as a hater comment (its not intended that way) but u click ur tongue a lot :P

  • I recently had an eye infection and didn't want to have to throw away all my makeup, but i asked my parents, a doctor and nurse if alcohol would sanitize my products and they said it would do NOTHING. This might work for regular cleansing i'm not really sure , but don't use it to try and get rid of germs/bacteria when dealing with an infection. I wanted to share this with anyone who might be having the same problem as me, throwing away your makeup is the only option!!

  • Great video, & btw the alcohol percentage should be 90% the stronger is better. I do this after each client use, no complaints & it's completely safe.

  • Thanks, I'd been researching an answer about the tricky gel or cream liners. Question answered!

  • Thanks for sharing...what's the alcohol/water ratio?

  • U r just scared of germs. a few germs wont harm us.

  • Hi! How do you sanitize mechanical style lip and eye liners?

  • For the products that have an applicator that you take out and put back into the container (like lip glosses, mascara, and concealer), you can sanitize them, but you have to be really meticulous...

Every time you use them, and BEFORE putting them back into the tube, wipe them down thoroughly with an alcohol-saturated paper towel or sponge.

This also helps the products last longer--believe it or not--because none of the dry/used/contaminated/left-over product is entering the tube again. =]

  • How often do you do this?
