In my opinion, this is the most revolutionary film of all time. It's very easy to forget, while watching it, that this film was made in '68. I also believe that Kubrick was the most revolutionary director of all time. Long live his films!

@TheHauptsturmfuhrer What the hell do you mean by "white people"? If you mean what I think you mean, then shame on you.

@cinematicalart When the ape throws the bone into the sky. MATCH-CUT to space ship floating through space.
the match cut matches the shape of the bone to the shape of the space ship, the significance there is that, we went from using bones as tools, to building spaceships.

Agree on all points.

This is a form cut.

The first porch monkeys, who were obviously vegetarians, listening at night to the original carnivores. The learning process took millions of years before they advanced to the point of understanding that it took fire to cook meat and they were still to stupid to grow their own food and make their own shelter;until white people arrived to begin caring for them from cradle to grave;as is obviously still the process today and apparently will continue to be until the end of time.

As a kid that grew up during the Star Wars Time, i found this film pretty boring. Now I watched it in it´s entirety and you can really feel the intensity of this movie. It´s really an Art! You really see the handwriting of Stanley Kubrick in this one, when i compare it to Clockwork Orange and FMJacket, which still are totally different movies.
a match cut means something matches from one image to the next, thus linking the edited, juxtaposed images. so, what matches? it could be a shape, a color, movement, form, etc.
