THe Colonial Theatre in Pittsfield , Massachusetts has just been renovated and returened to its' origional 1903 Condition. Video By Berkshire Eagle photographer Ben garver
I rented a room for my beauty salon~~I believe it was located in the balcony, when George Miller had his paint business there.
He always told me that, "someday this is going to be a theater again" and I won't let anyone change anything in this building until another interested party uses it for a theater
I am sure he is looking down and smiling on the Colonial theater and Pittsfield for allowing this to happen !
Very nice video . However,it is truley sad that George Miller or his family received NO mention in this video. Had it not been for George Miller the bulding would never have survived .
one year ago in my drama/theater-class it was one of the issues we were discussing. How to modernize and at the same time preserve historical theaters/stages. This is a great example of how gentle modernization and preservertion can be combined.
we're losing too many of our grand theaters to the walmartesque MULTIPLEXIS with 20 screens, IMO it's about the experience of going to the theater and enjoying it for what it should be, a beautiful building with fixtures on the wall, not out to some big square lifeless room or to a lobby that's painted like the partrige family bus
Simply breathtaking!! I pray for the day when I can walk inside this beautiful theatre! Distance separates me now..but as soon as I return to Pittsfield, I will be there.
What a wonderful video of the Colonial Theater

My mother performed for the Berkshire Players about 1910 to 1915...Then on to have a large "Pittsfield Family" ... She would be pleased !!
