Thankful for our Smooth Jazz family

It's that time of the year when we think about all the things we are thankful for....our families, friends, our jobs, our pets, for sunrises and sunsets. Oh, and for Smooth Jazz, of course.

I lived away from Omaha for 20 years and moved back home 3-3-2003 to be closer to my parents (since my son was grown and living in Washington, DC.) From the day I moved home, we started having family tragedies, broken backs, heart attacks, kidney, heart, lung failure and lung cancer....and just 2 short years after I moved home, I lost both of my parents within 5 months of each other. I was devastated. They were my best friends.

A few months later, January, 2007 I learned about Smooth Jazz (and dancing) at the Ozone. The first night I went to Smooth Jazz Thursdays, Dave Nabity was on stage talking about a new society he had formed and that he was looking for volunteers. I talked to Dave that night and he quickly got me involved on the Board. I was put in charge of marketing and soon I was introducing the bands and promoting our membership. We built the society from 300 to 2400 non-paying members. This past March, I became the President of the Midwest Smooth Jazz Society and am honored to represent such great people.

I am thankful for Tony Fuciniaro who provides a beautiful nightclub to perform in, with outstanding staff to serve us. A special thanks goes to my loyal and hardworking board members.... Jim Harvey, Tracey Crawford Kilgore, BJ Hines, April Blake, Patti Knop and Alfonzo Alexander. They are to be commended.

In closing, I wanted you to know that all of you are like family to me. You filled a very large void in my live and I am so thankful for all of you.
