This is part 1 of 3 of a 23 min short documentary on the last rural village, or 'kampong', in Singapore - Kampong Lorong Buangkok.

This documentary is a product of love, sweat, and mosquito bites, created by a group of final-year students from NTU's School of Communication & Information. All rights reserved by Retrospect Pictures. Feel free to drop us a message for inquiries on usage!

Synopsis:
Despite being surrounded by concrete housing all around in modern-day Singapore, Kampong Lorong Buangkok fiercely retains its traditional roots, evident in the rustic wooden huts and strong 'kampong spirit' reflected by the older residents.

Three generations of a typical kampong family which has been intimately affected by modernization voice their thoughts on what has been and will be, giving a rare glimpse into kampong life in 21st century Singapore.

  • bagus baik ! when will we get to live in houses.. not apartments or pigeon holes /?!

  • When we review back photos and graphics of old Singapore, it really is sombre, heartening and sickening at the same time. Dont know how we come abt accepting the ideas of urban homes. Living phases in Singapore really is a threaten to childhood memories. Childhood places and living places of our old grand folks are lost forever.

  • Rasa teruja bila tahu singapura masih mempunyai kampung! ...nice!

  • I hope Singapore Government will preserve this place as National Monument/Place or National Living Museum for all Singaporeans to witness in the Future

  • Only Malay will try to keeo the old heritage. Progress is good but when hardship occurs, You can survive better living at Kampung. I beleive if there is war, all Singaporeans will eat rats living in stone building
