@chrissy15101 Its the lie of the land, the way its been built upon over the centuries, most the roads were winding cart tracks through the forests and valleys, and to drive somewhere today because of the amount of roads & traffic it can take a Long time
It can take over an hour to drive 5 miles in London. especially in rush hour, if you can move at all
The busiest motorway (freeway) in Europe is the M25 London Circular. drivers often get stuck in traffic for over 10 hours, sometimes all night.

@chrissy15101 its a very overpopulated country with a lot of people wanting to go to a lot of places. You think its extensive now, but back in the 1950s it was larger still!
