This is one of those symphonic poems that really tells the full story from first to last. Just like Harty's "With the Wild Geese," another evocative work. Why conductors program works like Elgar's "In the South" on a (too) regular basis, while this one remains shrouded in obscurity, mystifies me!

Thank you for for this .... although I have this recording, it is your upload that reminds me of how rewarding Harty is (and how very well served in this performance by all the artists). I have just rescued my copy from its oblivion and will now renew my former close aquaintance!!

Wow... gorgeous. The accompanying Waterhouse painting is fitting, too.

This excerpt is the climax and the best moment of Harty's symphonic poem. The rest of the work is also very good indeed but I prefer to upload what I like best !
