  • How little there is of the great Faulkner anywhere out there...

  • I couldn't agree more.More stuff will emerge, I'm sure of it. There's some nice playing of him on "Christy Moore's Cabaret"

  • Please excuse the poor quality, I used my camcorder to video the tv screen...

  • @treguiers thank god you took it many thanks

  • this is real class a song.

tell s you what life all about

would make a no 1 in my thinking

  • You are entitled, of course, to your view. There are other better, non-showboating balladeers, and many of them. Sincerity is the measure - Mr Hanly and Mr Brady, for example, had it in spades. Mr Moore couldn't hold a candle to either of them. Jimmy was a musician and a prince. Take away the accompanists - Faulkner, Sinott, the many others of quality with which he cloaked himself and Moore is merely a green vaudevillian.

  • agreed , you sound like my brother who was a big mate of his and often says the same

  • true for you

  • I'm also sad to hear that Jimmy Faulkner has passed away. A fine musician. Listen to his brilliant playing on the Tara recording (1978):Live in Dublin/Christy Moore, specially solo on Black is the colour of my true love's hair.

By the way: I think Christy Moore's singing is really wonderful and has been so for nearly forty years(shoelaces or not... one is a ballad singer and the other a slide guitarist). Check out i.e. Galtee mountain boy (TG4gaelige, posted).

  • @treguiers You're excused mate. It's a lovely piece. Well done.

  • so glad that you got this master piece not enough of either of these artists to view love this song and all mick hanley songs xxx july 09 meath

  • you go dad in fine form

    your daughter jess xx

  • Yes, but Christy wasn't fit to tie Jimmy's shoelaces - Jimmy had more music in him than a barrel full of Christies. The shame is that the only worthy piece of Faulkner on the net is that soaring solo for Mr Brady; that wonderful piece "(Prayer for) Sarajevo" is only available on RTE's The View - it's a wonder no one has lifted it and made it generally available here...
