People have been flying kites for hundreds of years, but mostly for leisure and fun and in Benjamin Franklin's case, to play with the lightning. The latest kite-like turbines from Joby Energy are going to harvest renewable energy for us by tapping into the upper layer of the atmosphere which contains as much as 870 terawatts of power, literally an energy farm waiting to be harvested. The turbines also reduce the amount of materials needed for each watt of power, using only 20 tons of materials per megawatt, compared to 96 tons for other conventional forms of wind power.

  • very interesting design, I often wonder about sticking some type of turbine right up there in the jetstream where the winds are constantly around 100 mph. Good seed idea though, keep it up, may the wind horse be with you friend.

  • I think this really has a great potential to succeed!

  • good bye birds
