A Nintendo DS lite is running the application KaosDS 1.2. Wireless data from the values of the touchscreen are sent to a laptop via DSMI. The laptop is running Max/MSP. The Max patch that is currently running takes the data from the DS and controls the amplitude of two sinewaves. The amplitude of one sinewave is based on the X co-ordinates and the other on the Y co-ordinates. In addition, data is also being sent to an Arduino board that controls the brightness of two LEDs (once again X and Y).

You can view the Max patch and the Arduino sketch here:

  • ok. my hearing has been checked.

  • nice!

  • @ToastyW33N Not usually on the market though.... just FYI they're usually homebrew

  • @radicalgarbage02

    Not today.

  • @CompleteAndTotalJunk As far as dedicated MIDI controllers go, none that I know of. However, seeing as how many people now own smartphones, pretty much any iPhone/Android/Windows Mobile/Windows Phone/Maemo device will have some sort of MIDI controller app where you can set up your computer as a server for the client app that runs on the phone. Many of these apps are also mutli-touch aware, so you can really move the knobs, sliders and pads anyway you wish without any problems! Google it!

  • @radicalgarbage02 wow! what midi controllers with x/y pads send midi over wifi? would really like to know. excellent comment, btw!

  • cool :D

  • Where do you get the parts to build it??

  • @ridicalgarbage02 If you dont own a DS then you cant reuse one can you?

  • @TheSilentwarrior99 Not everyone owns a DS...
