I spent about six hours on the very small island of Bjørnø this Sunday. My mother went along, so I didn't really shoot that much. We managed to walk around the coastline twice and had lunch at the beach where all the boat footage is shot.

Bjørnø is only about 1.5 square kilometers or 0.58 square miles big. There are 28 inhabitants in 13 houses and another 7 vacation homes. The island has a small kiosk that sells snacks and ice cream, so grocery shopping is done in the town of Fåborg 17 minutes away by ferry (owned and operated by the islanders). The ferry holds 22 people and some bicycles - there are no real roads on Bjørnø. The island is quite hilly - the highest elevation is 24 meters or 79 feet. The hill is called Højbjerg which translates to Tall Mountain :) Many Danish hills are called mountains.

Bjørnø is part of the South Funen Archipelago. An area with many smaller islands which attracts sailors from both Denmark and Germany but also Holland, Sweden and Norway. The ferry in the intro shot is a car ferry to the island of Ærø.

Funen or Fyn in Danish is the island where I live. My home town of Odense is 30 minutes away from Fåborg by car.

I brought my Lenovo netbook along and found that the mobile broadband signal was better here than in downtown Odense. The mobile broadband that I have can manage up to about 7.2 Mbit but mostly never goes any faster than 1.5 Mbit. Nothing beats sitting on top of a hill on tiny Bjørnø and surfing the internet at the same time :)

  • -Did you make any color corretion?

    -Lenses reference please?

    -Final cut or dobe premiere?

-I really love this video, i watch it almost everyday?

    Greats from Holand

  • Hi and thanks :)

I made some slight color correction with Magic Bullet Looks.

    I used Canon EF lenses:

    24mm f/2.8

    50mm f/1.8

    200mm f/2.8L (with and without 2x Extender)

I edit with Sony Vegas Pro 9.

  • Superb video! Now I must visit Denmark! This was also shot with the HG10, correct?

  • Thanks :)

Yes, this was the HG10 with Letus Mini adapter and some Canon lenses.

If you do choose to come visit, don't be shy to ask me a few questions :). Not that I want to tell you where to go, but I could probably give you a few pointers and save you some money on accommodation. Denmark is a bit on the expensive side for you Americans...

  • Haha, I will have to save up then. I was reseraching about the letus 35 mini adapter and it is selling for 799! Does this adapter make a HUGE difference in video appearance? Would a wide angle lens adpater achieve a similar effect?

  • Adapters give you the choice of 'shallow depth of field'. Shallow DoF is all about being able to choose what's in focus and what's blurry. Shallow DoF comes from having a large sensor. Small camcorders have a very small sensor while large pro camcorders have some what larger sensors - but nothing near the size of 35mm film. Adapters let you attach any SLR lens from very wide to long tele and project an image onto a screen the size of 35mm film (inside the adapter).

  • If what you want is 'just' a wide angle view and having everything in focus, you can just buy a fisheye lens. This will be much cheaper. I'll send you a message with some links that explain the whole adapter 'thing' in detail...

  • Perfection!...a perfect example of how to "Pan" with a movie camera!...and perfect music also!..keep up the great work!..

  • It looks about as good as a HVX200 - a $5000 camera. Beautiful work!

  • You live in such a beautiful place...
