One thing I worry about when taking a bend is the appearance of slow cyclists half way through.

@MrFinerty ''environmentally responsible'' what kind of PC eco-religious bullshit is that?. He is not out on a leisurely drive down to the local store , it is an instructional on how to get from A to B in an emergency situation using gears and acceleration that will ensure the best use of the applied power.
-
Wouldn't driving in higher gears be more environmentally responsible?

I drive like this AND SAFELY all the time in the country side OOOOPS I mean allegedly ( when the police are not about) night time driving is better as you can see whats coming at you in the dark

such low gears! my car wouldn't do 60 in third without hating me forever

I bought both DVDs after viewing thisand they are excellent. Encouraged me to take the IAM Drivecheck 55 and now considering the test. One comment though, these DVDs are crying out for an HD version. Any chance of this?
-
Just to be an ass, I think the DVD should be called "How to waste petrol and drive paranoid".
In all seriousness though, I think a lot of drivers would benefit from these lessons.
Would a Driving Examiner frown upon me Practicing Commentary Driving during the test?

@SanctuaryShred If you are taking an advanced test the examiner will be delighted to hear you commentate and would encourage you to do so. A good commentary will actually earn you a higher rating.
If you are taking the DSA 'L' test the examiner won't stop you, particularly if it is helping your driving.

I'm amazed your engine didn't blow! Driving near the red line in 2nd and 3rd? No need to do that really if your car has enough power. You could have easily taken that road at 100+ at the start.
urbex2007 1 year ago
@urbex2007 Driving near the red line is not best practice, although of course, it will not blow the engine up as the engine management system will never allow a vehicle to over rev. What you saw was the engine revs never exceeding 90% of the power band. For example, if the vehicle red lines at 6,000 revs - 5400revs would be the maximum, after 5400 revs engine performance starts to drop off. At no time during the drive were 5400 revs exceeded. The speed limit is 60MPH.

umm... this is my first time watching this and it's really interesting. i just have one question. why does he say mirror randomly? is he checking his rear view mirror at that instant when he says it and then focuses back on the road? sry if it sounds dumb but w/e im just curious

@coopasan9 I am happy to reply. Every driver should have a 360 degree awareness and therefore frequent mirror use is essential to maintain this. Yes, indeed the mirror is being used when said and many more times unsaid. The mirror is also being checked when a hazard is identified and before I alter position on the road and/or alter speed. This is based on Roadcraft, the UK Police Driver's Manual - Roadcraft. Please visit my web site and contact me throught that means for more info
