Philip Roth's latest novel, 'The Humbling,' tells the story of famous actor whos suddenly unable to act; the story is driven by the books first line: "He'd lost his magic."

In this episode of TheDailyBeast.com's series 'The Beast Bar,' Roth describes how, even at this stage of his career, he fears for the loss of ideas. "When I finish a book, I think, what will I do? Where will I get an idea?" Roth says. "A kind of low-level panic sets in."

  • youtube users are too dumb to understand Roth novels

  • Philip, please don't die. Please keep writing books

  • I am humbled by the modesty of this Great American Novelist. "You write one page a day for three hundred sixty five days, and you have a novel". I love the simpicity, yet we all know how hard it is. Got a good chuckle out of septip123's comment, Tina was indeed invading his space. She was close enough to kiss him, which Phillip probably would have enjoyed.

  • I can't wait for "Nemesis," which comes out this fall. Yippie!

  • Great writer. Such a funny writer too as seen in Zuckerman Unbound and My life as a man. The Nobel is long due.

  • vomit draft... hmmm
