It's the same all over the world and as it depends on how many trucks and firefighters are called in, First Level/Alarm is the initial dispatch and is usually the largest dispatch, however if more trucks, equipment and firefighters are needed the commander calls in a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th Alarm/Level, anything above a 5 Alarm/Level means calling in crews from neighboring departments since the Local department has to maintain crews for other emergencies

go up and not down??? then when you are up there and the floors underneath are on fire and you cant get down then what??? jump off ? smart -_-

It's what's known as a mulitple alarm fire. The Alarm number refurs to how many trucks and firefighters respond to the scene and it goes up as more trucks and firefighters are called in (3 Alarm requests 4 more Engine Companies, 2 more Ladder Companies, and 3 more Battalion Chiefs to respond)

in North america it's 911 but in Hong kong SAR its 999

In Hong Kong, there are 5 levels of fire, the 1 level is the smallest fire, but the 5 level is the worst. 3 alarm fire is in the middle.

I was born in Hong Kong and i was only like 15 when that happened. I remember watching the news coverage on TV. Still haunted me to this very day.

@titanic5577 I think it's like how many fire departments you're calling so a 3-alarm fire calls for 3 fire departments to the scene.
