I have an eight it works great, i don't do much rock climbing but tons of rappeling.
-
I totally burned up a figure 8 on a 300 ft speed rappel.
-
dude stfu fig 8s r da best type stops r 4 retard who cant do it them selves
-
very good points, and i wasnt on the same page as you, as far as the 8 vs. the brake rack, i totally agree, i thought you were simply reffering to what name brand of equipment or something! :D
-
as long as you keep controll of the rappel and dont let it get too hot it will be fine. Safety? not everyone uses a safety. in a lot of cases one is not needed.
-
you cant use a figure 8 in that fall its over 65" if you reed the indications on eany figure 8 youll learnd that !!! and another thing a noticet is that there not using a belay as a safty line some thing that you shulld allweys use !!! sorry for my spelling !

figure 8 works great even though all i use is a rappel rack!

"gr8"? i think they are talking about equipment used for rappelling not word abbreviations

Absolutley terricic communication! But Single rope technique leaves a lot to be desired and using a brake rack instead of figure eight would get rid of that nasty spinning.I am not intending to insult anyone by this, as this used to be the most common practice but times have changed and new equipment has been developed.
The NFPA 1006 Standard on tech rescue has evolved magnificently to increase efficientcy and more importantly safety. This makes the old ways look a little precarious.
