I thought we were free to be free and screw ups by us....only effecting us....is allowed.
But it seems that that is NOT allowed because our Gov't knows better than we, what and how we should be "free" and live and spend what we earn....THAT is where we are now !!!! We need change alright....change among ourselves and strike a cord of retaking back our country and it's liberties and freedoms and install a SMALL gov't in the place of the morphed big gov't that smothers us now !!!!

@p7811fx finish you thought...."Free markets has flaws"......if you are gullible and just think that one need NOT think and act for themselves...and instead only turn to Gov't for everything.....I say that is the big brain dead mistake before us now !!!!

@biggestbigboy you can eliminate the free market without turning to the gov't for a totalitarian model. but, what problems does our current system have that would be eliminated with whatever system you advocate, and how would they be eliminated?

First, let's state upfront, I am not coming from a position of being "well off"
I like to win the "lottery" or "win" big, just like the next guy but I feel that there is something very, very wrong with a system that rewards those who "fail" to achieve and/or make "good." Life, real living, is supposed to be an adventure.
Help/Safety nets, should be provided by ones family, ones church or support group, and contacts/friends,the ones who truly know you and if you are truly deserving or not

@biggestbigboy although i believe that we have very different view points (i am an anarcho-socialist, i take it that you are a free market capitalist) but i agree with most of what you just said. the two fundamental problems which face capitalism are externalities and corruption. a corporation only considers internal costs, by the very nature of our system. social and environmental costs are not considered at all, nor are systemic risks. but within this current system, it is impossible to take

@biggestbigboy a free market approach to letting huge banks, etc fail without incurring huge cost to the economy and society at large. Until externalities are taken into account, capitalism will continue to be a system of theft and destruction. The second major problem facing capitalism is corruption - capital distorts democracy. in a "democracy" where our information and political systems run on capital, capital, not democracy becomes the ruling force. whether or not this is solvable is another

@biggestbigboy matter. I wish i had the statistics on lobbying and campaign contributions for 2008-2009 with me, they're staggering...

however, i agree with the sentiment of our founding fathers that life is a right, not a privilege, and that we as a society need to recognize this right, and defend it.

I don't believe you and I are that different. I can only say," that winning elections are nothing but a "free for all of "issuing" a line of BS on all the "free bees" one will recieve if "I" am elected, type of thing. And the dumber the citizenry, the better for the political machine, doing the offering. I mean, just look at where we are at now...I would really be scared if I wasn't so dumb...rules the day, now...It's sad but we aren't represented by any power in office..it's all self serve.

The problem in this country is not any one entity, such as the FED, or Wall Street, but the incestuous relationship that all these entities have with each other, and the fact that they now OWN Washington and just about every politician in it. That spells disaster for our economy and pain and misery for us, the taxpayers. We have got to stop listening to the "news" if you can even call it that and start thinking for ourselves. Revolution time!
