Congratulations to the Norwood violinists who so beautifully and masterfully performed the "Star Spangled Banner" at the Comcast Center on Sunday, January 30. The young musicians wowed the crowd gathered for a University of Maryland women's basketball game.
The Norwood students were joined by Strings for Joy, a group of young violinists from Columbia, Maryland. Believe it or not, Lower School Music Teacher Moyna Daley, who conducted the group, studied with Strings for Joy when she was in middle school, as did her son, Matt, who is a 2005 graduate of Norwood. It is also interesting to note that the Norwood and Strings for Joy students never had the opportunity to rehearse together. The Strings for Joy students practiced by playing along with Norwood's audition tape! On Sunday afternoon, the two groups sounded as if they had been playing together for years.
According to University of Maryland representatives, the musicians received rave reviews, and fans want to know when they are coming back. Even Head Coach Brenda Frese was talking about the performance during a post-game media interview!
