  • It think it was Paul Clayton who wrote this song. I love Bill Monroe's version.

  • It was actually Billy Grammer who wrote this one. Yeah Bill Monroe's version is special. Thanks for the comment.

  • I can't believe you're doing this song...we do it too and we know the guy who wrote it...Billy Grammer--he's in his 80's and lives about 30 miles from us in Sesser, Illinois....you did a great job on this song...5 stars. We loved it and I'm sure he would too.

  • Oh wow, I knew a guy named Billy Grammer wrote this song but because so many people have covered it, I added no names to the title, perhaps I should have. Next time you see him, tell him a young man in England has maximum respect for him.Anyway thanks so much for this amazing comment, it means so much that you think that Billy Grammer would approve. Also Im thrilled you loved it too. Thanks so much, take care

  • this song was written by Paul Clayton

  • Billy Grammer passed away on 8-10-11. RIP.

  • Great Job!!! I Love this Song.

  • Keeping the music alive and fresh, Gav. This is a nobel and honorable mission for which you seem to me to have been specially chosen to carry out. Hope your holiday is creating special memories. I'm sure you'll get right back to work on your return.

  • Very nice - Buddy Holly used to do this song live on his last tour. Bob Dylan heard him do it at one of his last gigs and started playing it.

  • This is a sad song...I feel bad for Johnny...lol

Great job with the song, you're haunting my past with these oldies...Thanks bud!

Btw, thought you were from Texas, don't know where I got that idea

  • Yes, a lot of people have covered it and I'm sure Mr.Grammer wouldn't be upset that you didn't add his name...he has a lot of love coming from our area....he's nearly blind, but he is still playing at local jam sessions....I'll tell him, if I see him this summer about your comment...it will tickle him I'm sure....best to you.
