  • What's the tuning like on these flutes? I'm a concert flute player, therefore a bit of a tuning nut. Is the C# okay? Would it be worth spending the bit extra to get a keyed one?

  • tuning is fine for me, i've encountered the flat c# more on pratten-style flutes (this is a rudall)

i'm not a big fan of keyed flutes, the vast majority of irish tunes can be played on keyless. i'd advise spending the extra money on a better keyless flute, just my opinion!

  • Thanks for that. I live in a climate that doesn't make wooden flutes very practical - you honestly have to keep them in a humidity controlled box to avoid cracking! For my first flute, at least, I'd really prefer a polymer one - so it's between this and Seery - the Seery I have on loan and am having flat C# trouble.

  • i live in the same sort of climate myself, polymer is ideal, with little difference in sound. i've a boxwood flute that doesn't like the climate at all, so i always carry a polymer for emergencies...

  • @SnowflakeDancer concert flutes are better

  • @catxkyo i play with my slilver concert flute and it sound like this

  • i've tried playing keyed flutes, but the keys break and it has get maintenence and such. i want to learn, and i was wondering if anybody could tell me what a good starter flute is. it would be nice to learn and get an irish flute. they sound beautiful. ^.^

  • do you know where i can get the sheet music?

  • that was hella good!

  • Hi. I play the western concert flute, and was thinking about learning to play an irish flute. Can anyone tell me how similar they are?

  • My M&E polymer flute arrived today!! I am extremely happy with it. I'd been practicing on a Pratten-style flute that I had on loan and was struggling with it (small hands...) so when I picked this one up it felt incredibly comfortable and easy to play.

It arrived in about a week, even though it was an international order. It also folds up very small in the soft case; it can easily fit in a backpack or large purse and be taken anywhere.

The lower register also sounds absolutely gorgeous!
