An "Evening of Remembrance" is set for 6:45 to 8:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at the New Hope Church, 4225 Gettysburg Ave. N., New Hope. Honor guards from the West Metro Fire-Rescue District and the Brooklyn Park Fire Department will participate, along with other metro-area fire departments. Jerry Rosendahl, state fire marshal, will be the emcee. St. Paul Fire Chief Tim Butler will speak and the Minnesota Police Pipe Band will perform. The free event is open to the public.

Kroening Interpretive Center in Brooklyn Center will have a spiders event from 1 to 3 p.m. tomorrow at North Mississippi Park. The cost is $5 per person and open to all ages. For more information, call 763-694-7693.

The Brooklyn Park Lions will have a waffle breakfast Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to noon at the Community Activity Center. Tickets are available at the door. The cost is $6.50 for adults, $3 for children 3 and under.

The Golden Valley League of Women Voters will gather current, former and potential members at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 12, at Brookview Community Center, 200 Brookway Parkway. The city's first woman council member and first woman mayor will speak.
