On 29 July 2011, the women of WAST marched from St Georges Hall in Liverpool to the UK Border Agency office in Water Street, Liverpool, to present a list of demands which they have formulated to assist the U.K.B.A to improve Britain's asylum process and to enforce respect for asylum seeker's human rights.
W.A.S.T. (Women Asylum Seekers Together) is a self led, self help, gender specific group developed by women asylum seekers to support one another through the dehumanising, disempowering and frightening process that is Britain's immigration system.
We mustn't let racist policies generate the same kind of ill-will that led to the holocaust. It is good that women asylum seekers are campaigning for human rights and dignity. Women are at a double risk of persecution if sent back as they potentially face rape in addition to any other torture in the regimes they are fleeing.

Most asylum seekers want to work but are not legally allowed to. No doubt this is deliberate on the part of the government to create the impression that they are only here for the benefits so that the general population will resent asylum seekers and blame them for the ills of the economy which were in fact caused by the banking system and corporations that influence the government. In Germany in the 30s Jews were blamed for the recession. In the UK today Muslims and asylum seekers are blamed.
