Blues has solid roots in Africa, the civil war may have provided instruments but it did not provide the music, it would have been made either way. Shit, jazz musicians invented the drum set, they would have found some way to create that sound with or without the civil war.

Any book about the blues will tell you that basic information. Music can take outside influences but to go on about the civil war as if it were a main influence is almost insulting to the history of the blues.

Africans created plenty of string instruments, especially in West Africa (Ghana, Burkina Faso, etc.). For instance, banjo is from Africa.

Why nobody argues about the roots of Classical Music or Tango? Why do people get excited arguing about the roots of Blues and Jazz? These two wonderful genres are obviously African-American. In this day an age, arguing about these commonly known facts show something really sinister about the person.
