The choreographic work "A Delicate Balance," is in reference to the Bible in the book of Ezekiel, Chapter 37, verses one through fourteen (Ezekiel 37:1-14). This section of the Bible, or rather, these particular verses, are about the Valley of the Dry Bones. The verses speak of how Ezekiel was carried away by the spirit of the Lord to a valley of bones(the bones represent the people of Israel). As Ezekiel moved through the valley, being guided by the spirit of the Lord, he saw how a valley of death and desecration became a great army of life, standing up on their feet. The Lord caused the dead to rise again! The dry bones of the valley spoke of the condition of the people and how they were dead spiritually. But God would give the people of Israel a new life and a nation, restored both physically and spiritually, just as he promised.
I have also used the book of Ephesians, Chapter 6, verses ten through twenty (Ephesians 6:10-20). These verses in the Bible, are reminding us that we must put on The Whole Armor of God. We must be ready for battle; But not by waging war with our own strength, but rather with God's mighty weapons. The whole body needs to armed in order for us to rise above the enemy!
These scriptures of the Bible in the books of Ezekiel and Ephesians, tell the story of, "A Delicate Balance." This piece shows how, God will restore us and we shall become new creatures! We may have the same bodies, but God is light and life and when we let him in, He can heal us and become our restoration! Many times in the season of restoration, we may see reflections of who we truly are at heart. The truth of who we are is not always a pretty picture, but God breathes the breath of new life that transforms our once broken flesh and bones into new creations. After we are restored we have to make sure we are protected with the great armor of God! Ready for battle in the army of the Lord!!
The choreographic movement is a spiritual hybrid of hip hop, house, modern, and african dance. These diverse styles of dance are organically fused together to create a flow in the body that is in constant motion, while unfolding a universal story that is raw and sincere.
