@MisterNifty Phil is on the left (Derek's left), Ray is on the right. Hanson has nothing on these guys. Just listen to anything they did in Gentle Giant and tell me Hanson are their equals.
As Ray is standing to the left of Derek positioned at the center, Isn't Phil Shulman standing to his right? Do you think the Hanson's (brothers) are comparable to the Shulmans talent wise? I've always felt the Hanson's had talent beyond just being a boy's band.
@tamlin10 Simon Dupree had the Shulman brothers at its heart. It was the precursor to the later Gentle Giant progressive rock group, with it being arrangement / experimental (music for advanced musicians).
They aren't as open to talking about it now, but the success of Simon Dupree's hit song "Kites" led to a nervous breakdown by Derek Shulman. "Gentle Giant" allowed the band to keep Derek, their incredibly gifted singer, by always remaining on the cusp of popularity but never quite there.
Simon Dupree and the Big Sound had one big hit, Kites, which is on You Tube. While on the road in Scotland they took on an organist to play at gigs. He also performed on some of their records. He was then Reg Dwight, now Elton John.
