~This is a Tool-Assisted Speedrun, or TAS. This is not meant to show true human skill, but to investigate what the true potential of a game is. Frame-by-Frame, savestates, and slowdowns were used in this run.
Rerecords - 190
Actual WR - 1:18.74 by fank009
My Personal Record - 1:19.20, which is in 2nd place
Here's my redo of the old TAS which was pretty bad. About 70 more rerecords which pretty much add up to being more careful on the corners. Several small mistakes, but nothing huge.
@0:34 in the video is kind of sloppy, mostly because of the programmers making the course unpredictable. There are random spots where you'll just pop up, they are consistent throughout but random, and I didn't feel like trying to avoid this one since it was at such a crucial part of the course.
@0:48 in the video is really wide at first glance, but I had to go wide to set up for the next turn. Turning sharply here would have killed the rest of the run.
@0:55 is the most controversial part of the run. I honestly thought about this for 10 minutes before continuing. I'm 95% sure that I didn't lose time by "hitting" this flag, since it allowed me to get much better alignment for the next turn. However, it could have slowed me down a very small amount. Funny thing is, if I went any further to the right, I would have gotten the much worse hitting flag animation which would have screwed the whole run.
As you can see in the third interval (between the second checkpoint and the end) I lost .03 on my old TAS. That is because I held the turn way too long going into that channel section with the orange border. I noticed it after looking at the run, if I ever come back to this I'll fix it.
I can honestly say now that this will never sub 1:00 as I stated as a possibility in my old TAS. It's not going to happen. Sub 1:05 is far and away, very very hard to pull of and maybe impossible. I'd say sub 1:07 to be safe, but you never know I guess :P.
I really would like to see a complete TAS of all events movie, too bad this game isn't really played or known much.
nice TAS

@WolfWoot I'm glad you enjoyed it. I haven't really TASed this in a while and I haven't really had any plans to get back to it, but there is a lot left unturned that I could go for in this game. Some are easy to destroy like Bobsleigh and Luge, but legitimate TASes for good scores in speed skating and ski jumping might be interesting to explore.
Thanks again for watching it though, more people should play this game, it's underrated and most events are really fun.

Found your video while I was looking for actual record scores. My son pulled out this game recently...and we had a little retro gaming session. We've done dozens of runs in the 1:17's and we were tied with identical 1:17:12 times until I clipped off a 1:16:74 run. I'm thinking we may have had a 1:15 back in the day but I'm not sure. I'd be curious to see what the real record is. We do turn tighter at :50 than your TAS run

@joizyboy hey, thanks for checking out my video. I've seen times in the 1:10's on various sites, but haven't seen anything below the 1:10 mark. As for the TAS, I'm sure it can be improved, I'm just happy to see there's people that actually played this game for times, it's a fun game to compete on, although irritating at times.
