SHe was formed in late 2008 by a group of friends in Washington, D.C., who wanted a meaningful alternative to large single's activities like cruises or other events. This group created the Singular Humanitarian experience (SHe)—a volunteer-run organization with a two-fold mission: facilitate meaningful and unforgettable opportunities for singles to serve together anywhere in the world and provide sustainable humanitarian development projects.
SHe volunteers are principally, but not exclusively, single members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in their mid-20s to late 30s who are interested in using their talents, skills, and time to provide significant service as well as enrich their lives through personal and cultural interactions.
SHe's inaugural expedition to Nepal in November 2010 brought together 40 volunteers for eight days. The group participated in a multi-faceted project serving the Nepali people in the remote Lamjung District in the foothills of the Himalayas.
SHe worked together with CHOICE Humanitarian, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with more than 20 years of experience in combating poverty by focusing on sustainable village development in Nepal.
