A bit late, but some may be interested. It is impossible to answer this without knowing what kind of fabric you will be using. On my serger, the LCD recommends a tension for each stitch and type of fabric, but sometimes it needs to be adjusted some. I start with the rec'ed and test on a scrap piece of the fabric, then adjust until it looks great. For a suit, you'll use the 4 thread seam to sew and cast over, or in some cases even a (reinforced) 5 thread seam. Check your manual for rec tensions.

You really don't need those cards to manage and recognize things on a serger. If you have e.g. the Husqvarna Huskylock 910 or 936 (or the newer S21/S25), you get all the info you need on the LCD screen instead. Even easier. I love my 936,in a few hrs I understood well how it works, threading it, converting to coverstitch etc (936 is a 5 thread one that can do more than the one in this video) etc. It's much less complicated than I thought, it is so easy to use and the results are amazing!
