Toronto, June 27, 2010 — Paul Nguyen was honoured as the recipient of the 2010 Paul Yuzyk Award for Multiculturalism by Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney. The ceremony was held at the Toronto Congress Centre and emceed by Nazanin Afshin-Jam and Member of Parliament for Edmonton-Sherwood Park, Tim Uppal. Dignitaries in attendance included Member of Parliament for Mississauga-Erindale, Bob Dechert and Ukrainian Ambassador Dr. Ihor Ostash.
Paul was honoured for making outstanding contributions to multiculturalism in Canada through his website, Jane-Finch.com. The award included a $20,000 grant to be given to a non-profit organization of the recipient's choice. Paul designated the grant to the Vietnamese Canadian Centre towards the construction of the Boat Museum in Ottawa.
The Paul Yuzyk Award for Multiculturalism is an annual honour bestowed upon an individual or group that has demonstrated a dedication to the advancement of diversity, multiculturalism and the integration of new Canadians into Canadian society. It commemorates the late Senator Yuzyk's pioneering legacy in establishing multiculturalism as one of the fundamental characteristics of Canadian identity.
