@embracedbyfrost can we all just agree that artists are permitted to write albums that have both everything and nothing to do with their influences?
-
@fluffywalrus well, it has the sound and the atmosphere of black metal, thus it is black metal.

@embracedbyfrost true.

yes!!!!!!

Phil's music is far beyond genre...I lol at anyone trying to make it into a category

The vocals are weak but still far better than the generic dog growl metal vocals that pollute top 40 pop metal.

since black metal has recently begun to move more towards folk/pagan influences, it fascinates me that a folk musician would make such a brilliant attempt to meet them in the middle. =) i'm not too familiar with his other music, but this album i definitely enjoyed.

new type of drone shoegaze "black" metal like My Bloody Valentine?

Hails to inventing a great cross-genre. Oh wait, that means "I give you applause"?
Hahaha. Mount Eerie just got categorized as black metal?! I can't agree with that at all, but I appreciate the connection! Delve deeper into Phil's (Microphones/Mount Eerie) music. It's most certainly farrrr from black metal, but it is phenomenal; I promise you that.

Well, it was considered to be Phil's "Black Metal" album. As in, influenced by Black Metal, but still very low-fi, grainy and folky. Almost nothing to do with Black metal aside from the atmosphere, and the approach he had going into this specific album.
So basically, like you said, far from Black metal. Just was influenced by it a fair bit.
