I had to go check it out to put my mind at rest.
The original is definitely by The Postal Service, written in 2002. Iron and Wine covered it before it was released as a single in 2003 by The Postal Service. They included the Iron and Wine cover version as a b-side on the "Such Great Heights" EP.
Hope this clears up any confusion surrounding the song :)

POSTAL SERVICE IS A COVER. This is the orinigal version, well this is also a cover but it sounds just like the original, by Iron and Wine.

Yes Postal Service wrote it. Iron & WIne's version is great. But it doesn't beat Postal Service.
