The Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory (GLERL), established in 1974, is NOAA's center for ecosystem research in the Great Lakes. GLERL scientists' work is inter-disciplinary; oceanographers, hydrologists, ecologists, fish biologists, engineers, and chemists work together to study different aspects of environmental issues facing the Great Lakes. The focus of their work is ecosystem forecasting: understanding the natural system well enough to develop predictive models for better stewardship of this precious natural resource. The Ann Arbor research facility houses office space, conference rooms, wet and dry laboratories, as well as a marine instrumentation lab. Current research projects are described in this video.
