  • Use heavier oil. Not recommended for Kohler OHV engines, but it might help keep it from burning so much oil.

  • Actually last week my dad took it over to the local repair place and the problem was the headgasket, and the cause of the gas leak was a faulty carburetor, so after those two things were replaced it runs like brand new again! no more smoking or gas leak.

  • how did you blow a head gasket?

  • I don't know I'm not the only one that uses this tractor, but I can tell you that nobody's ever changed the oil on this thing the whole 10 years we've had it.

  • I have a re MTD. You can see it in one of my older videos. It has a reliable briggs engine. I hear kohlers are crappy engines.

  • I just realized what I said! lmao!

  • kohler engines are not the thing to buy, everyone that I know that has one has had everything from head gasket failures to thrown rods, not to sound insulting or anything but maybe kohler should stick with manufacturing toilets like they've always been.

  • Well this one has proven to be crappy, this started smoking at the age of 8 which seems a bit too young.

  • its the rings then. it would be very difficult to replace the rings, not worth your time, just find another used engine

  • I always check the oil, and while I did this It was on the low side.
