"Vital authority for the EPA is stripped, but 2 billion additional tons of pollution are authorized every year, forever. Residential consumer protection incredibly is entrusted to the mercy of utility companies. Exempting a hundred new coal plants and paying billions to Old King Coal leaves him, indeed, a very merry old soul. This bill is 85% different from what President Obama proposed months ago. No wonder his Budget Director called this type of bill the largest corporate welfare program in history of the United States. Until greatly improved, until families share in the billions this bill grants powerful lobbies, I cannot support it.

  • Well I was wrong, Doggett called opponents of the bill "flat earthers", I will have to campaign against this guy.

  • Obama said himself the cost of electricity will sky rocket under his plan. Don't you get it? The bill is going to tax us to death, no matter what form it's in.

  • The legislative process is a lot more complicated than any one vote would indicate. Often, you fight for what you hope you can get, settle what you can get today, then fight to make things better tomorrow. If Lloyd Doggett thinks that it's better to have a bill pass the House than no bill, I'm inclined to agree with him. Doggett has around a 95% lifetime environmental voting record in Congress and was an environmental champion in the state senate plus he was the anti-war whip on the Iraq vote.

  • He just changed his mind on the house floor. He said the ignorance of the republicans and their denial of climate change caused him to change his vote.

  • Not sure if I like why he's opposing this bill, but I'm happy nonetheless.

  • Heck yes! Great speech!
