My attempt at playing Satie's Gnossienne No. 1 with a view of dusk from my bedroom window. I don't believe that the piece suits too rigid a tempo so I kept it fairly amorphous. I also tried to follow Satie's markings more than the precise score. The balance between the two hands isn't perfect either but a digital piano has a very limited dynamic range. Enjoy.

  • Beautiful piece and you're right, I feel the tempo is not supposed to be so rigid in this piece. Think of Chopin and his use of rubato. I think your version could do with even a little more rubato, just keep it unexpected. Otherwise, beautiful playing.

  • I agree, I think it ended up a lot more rigid than I intended. Have a listen to my Gnossienne No. 2, if you get the chance, I think it captures the rubato you suggest more fully. Thank you very much though.

  • Great job!

  • Thank you, I just uploaded Gnossienne No. 2 which I am actually happier with. Please have a look if you have the time.

  • I love your visual. What digital piano is this?

  • Thanks. Clavinova 401.

  • I really enjoyed your interpretation and the video.

  • I play this piece slower, duration ca. 5:20 min... Like Reinbert de Leeuw

  • Great playing.

  • As you say, not like original score but beautiful and haunting. Nicely done. I'm much more into ambiental/noise scene and can't play this well. I'm even having a hard time with gymnopedies n1 and I envy you the skills to play this beauty. Keep on doing it :-) greeting from slovenia.

  • Good cover kallisti!
