Thanks to the hard work of the Oni community, we have a level to play in. The challenge of importing a new level is pathfinding grids. The grids in this level were created manually, but, in the future they will be auto-generated. Then we can import complex levels to Oni.

This preview also highlights the latest mods to Oni, from new intro screens, to a HD Konoko, to some new characters. The Iron Demon is still work in progress.

  • Go to mods dot oni2 dot net and search for Arena of Hurt. It requires Anniversary Edition to be installed.

  • The Cyborg or Typhoon was created by Matias P, the one who made the Sentry Droid and Guard dog models. I have to release it one of these days. :-)

I don't know how close or far auto-generating pathfinding grids will be. First off, importing existing pathfinding grids has some bugs, so that will need to be fixed.

The devs should have auto-generating grids, I don't think they could make the grids manually.

  • wow this is really cool. how do you get this mod? i really want to play it

  • @Mukadeus Designing the grids by hand is tedious, especially when there's furniture and such. The Bungie developers almost certainly generated them automatically (and later failed to update them, which is why the grids don't always match the level geometry).

We will no doubt implement autogeneration at some point, but don't hold your breath. If you want to tweak original Oni levels, you can use the old grids to some extent. As for new levels, keep them simple for now, and do the grids manually.

  • I concur with "andrashi". To a non-fan, Oni's combat system is still too much of a "burly brawl", and a bit of a disgrace. And when it's played by humans sometimes it looks even worse. I think the AI should show us the example by using more blocking, dodging and "spacing".

  • @mikethy We are not greedy. Lazy and/or busy, if anything. We already made some modding tutorials, so if they are not good enough for you, you should at least tell us what kind of modding you are interested in.
