This video captures the demolition of the Kapuskasing Inn, during May 2008.
With sadness and nostalgia, the resilient and proud folks of Kap watched as cranes brought down the famous landmark.
Two youths have been blamed for committing arson. It might be true, but everyone in town knows that the Inn had been abandonned for decades in neglect and disrepair, just waiting for an accident. Sadly because of small town mindset the youth is easily blamed.
The Inn played an important and positive role in socializing and gatherings during the long cold winters of this northern town. (for Toronto folks, Barrie is not northern Ontario!)
Having been a Kap expatriate for 20 years it's hard for me to imagine what life is like now for youth in Kap: the only hang-outs are Tim Horton and 2 bars that are overrun with bored police officers looking for trouble.

I remember the Kap Inn when i was a little girl, i have some great memories there with all my family and the Mateev family. It will always have a special place in my heart, it being the first hotel built in kap and when the queen visited it. I remember going in her room and playing with my cuzs in it. It mite be slowly dying but it is still my home. RIP Kap Inn! xoxox

The Kap Inn was toast years before it burnt down...thx to the Mateev family and yes..the town is a discrace and is dying a slow death thanks to ruthless companies like Tembec and Wal-Mart.
