Our planted community tank. Oh boy has it has problems. All of the tetras decided to swim inside the filter and commit suicide. Then we got a case of ick. Lost a few fish. Then brown algae broke out. Well got a few ottos, they were doing a good job of cleaning it up, and the Betta went nuts. Killed all the male guppies, killed an otto, took one eye out of our salt and pepper cory, and blinded the other otto. So brown algae bloomed back up. We fed the betta to the turtles, wife's idea after he killed about $20 in fish. So now we have two fancy female guppies, about five ghost shrimp, two standard male guppies, three corys, two albino dwarfs and a odd salt and pepper, who has an off set dorsal fin and barrel rolls when he swims, also his belly "scales" are on his side, so something chromosomal. And three ottos, one is completely blind, with no eyes. As you can see there still is some brown algae, but the new ottos are helping blindy get to it. So the algae is getting better, I dont' want to treat it as I have good green algae forming on my rocks. Oh yeah we have two baby guppies swimming around. The amazon swords are doing awesome in the sand. The peacock furns didn't make it, everything else is doing pretty well. Still using grow right aquarium bulbs.

  • The tank looks very nice. Just a question. do the ghost shrimp do much?

  • They are good scavengers, dig through the soil, I've changed the tank a little bit now, I have so many scavengers that they actually go after food, the ghost shrimp will run up the tank sides, across the top of the water upside down and snag blood worms.

  • Tank is doing fine, so is the otto he know the layout of the tank, slowed him down a little bit, but there is little compettion for food, no predators, and I've raised cichlids for years you see a lot of no/one eye fish in doing that.

  • Cool tank! Keep it up.

  • Looks luvly! Please can you advise on brown algea? I have 200l tank and have had it for nearlly two months, we have 4 ghirami (which were our starter fish) and now 10 orange platys. I did a 10% water change a week ago and used the friendly bacteria drops as advised by the dealer. The brown algea is thick drown and evry day it is SOOOO much worse! ...any advise is gratefully received!....oh and I don't overfeed, I feed every other day ...and not much
