This is the battery from a 2 year old 17" Macbook Pro.
At first the battery would cut out after about 10 minutes use, no hibernation just a hard shut down. I assumed it was a dead cell. A few days later i noticed a very slight swelling (1mm or so). After two days it had increased to 4mm swelling in two places, bending the metal and exposing the cells. I purchased a new battery and left the old one on my desk. After 10 days it looked like this.
At least the charge indicator lights still work!
