Le Mp3 - http://www.mediafire.com/?vc7l2l13bvx3xue

Let's start with the basics. Octavia is best pony. Now, with that out of the way, from a musician's perspective, she has acquired some very interesting fanon characterizations: A bookworm buried in Bach, a struggling alcoholic with an intolerance for the bourgeois, the list drags on. I like to imagine her as something of a pistol. Intensely passionate about her craft, a little bit pretentious, but good-hearted. So deep is my affection for this character that had but 10 seconds of screen time, I wrote this brief piano trio in her honor.

Personnel - Spike on Piano, Octavia on Cello (Yes, CELLO) and Pinkie Pie on Violin, of course!

The art featured in the main image is "Swoosh" by swaetshrit. Comment on it here: http://swaetshrit.deviantart.com/art/swoosh-258726261

The closing image is none other than an excerpt from the brilliant comic "Allegrezza."

Read it here: http://www.equestriadaily.com/2011/08/comic-allegrezza.html

And finally, the music itself. Apologies for being somewhat hung up on the main theme song, but it's just so adaptable. You'll find threads of the theme woven throughout the piece until it really surfaces in the coda's closing bars. This is probably one of my more challenging pieces for the listener. It's a fast and aggressive, truncated sonata-allegro with some wild harmonies. Just the same I think/hope you'll enjoy "Octavia's Triptych!"

  • I enjoyed this! Some good classical! With virtuosic playing and decent counterpoint! HUZZAH!

Here's some things to think about: The opening Cello part sounds like it'd be a pain to play, if you have any cello buddies, see if it's playable?

Some double stops sounded like ones I've been told to avoid when writing because of fingering...

That being said, this is an electronic rendition, so those things don't really matter...=P

Also, as Piercing said, Reverb! These sounded like the Sibelius Sounds!

  • @DrDissonance1 Thanks for listening! As for the double and triple stops in the opening part, I ran a double scan with sibelius to check for "impossibilities" so to speak and it passed, but yes, I definitely have to run it by my cellist friend to make sure things aren't...ridiculous. And as for the sounds, I'm looking to get GPO4 for christmas. It'll be an improvement, modestly. Oh, and I LOVE your stuff! Thanks for stopping by.

  • Love your piano stuff. Studied piano for 13 years, so I really appreciate some of the classical sensibilities you put into your pieces! Haven't touched the instrument in 4 years, but I might make an exception for My Little Nocturne. No promises, though.

  • @hanchenlu "Haven't touched the instrument in 4 years, but I might make an exception for My Little Nocturne..."

This, ladies and gentlecolts, its why I love doing what I do. Tackle those ivories! I love hearing of news such as this! Good luck if you do wind up playing it.

  • Dude... You amaze me, I wish I had your talent... Though, being a sound designer, I have suggestion... reverb, concert hall style reverb on all your instruments, because right now it sounds like it's being played in a small recital room, and I can also here that the instruments are computer generated. Reverb will fix both, though it's up to you how much to use. Just a little hint from a friend ;) -PiercingSight

  • @DaneGraphics First and foremost, thanks for listening! And your advice is much appreciated, but I did have a few reasons for keeping this recording a little on the dry side. The counterpoint and polyphony of the piece is a bit intense throughout the work. It's dense stuff and the inclusion of much more than a pinch of reverb created some cacophonous effects, lol. Then again, my mastering programs aren't what you would call state of the art, heh. Still, I'll keep it in mind. Thanks!
