What's amazing is that it's really Gene Krupa your hearing and Sal Mineo is matching the licks. Krupa played all the drums in the movie. How the hell S. Mineo was able to pull the visual off is truly phenomenal.

I have only seen very few brief clips of the real Krupa so I don't really know. But having played with many drummers for many years, my opinion is that you've got to be kind of manic to hit stuff for a living. Long live Kieth Moon but my fave was Al Jackson from Booker T & the MGs. That cat could swing.
