Gangnam Style was a parody that caught fire to the point that its own subversiveness got bleached by its popularity. It was always supposed to be bad - a lot of folks just didn't get the joke. It's on par with mistaking Brass Eye for a current affairs series, but on a scale of millions. Scary.

You would be surprised to know that much of the current crap music sells more albums & gets more views than the most talented artists that have their music posted here on youtube. It's a shame that the children of today are being deprived of the awesome music we were raised with. Even worse is that the parents of yesteryear allow this travesty!!!

As for the term 'hipster' being thrown about with disdain all I can say is that the word is redundant now.

What started as something loosely denoting spiritual succession to the Beats was itself mutated by mass perception. Remember, in the world we live in appearance follows lifestyle follows appearance follows lifestyle - both of which are commodities, both of which can be bought into and both of which have a shelf life.

Hey Toast, I wouldn't say this is a harmful thing. What it is, is an example of one of the most disturbing qualities of our species. The more of us you pool together in an *unguided* action, the stupider we get. Perceptions shift, fine detail gets lost and one thing becomes something else. In this case a catchy satirical tune became an international multi-million $£€ making cultural force, and its creator someone who can bend the ear of U.N. Secretary General Ban-ki Moon.
