Is there some kind of "rule," expressed or implied on who pulls over for the other driver first? It seems to me there is a lot of courtesy and self restraint involved. That's why that kind of driving simply wouldn't fly here in the states. People here don't have that kind of courtesy and patience. Fortunately, narrow streets are not a problem in the US, if there were, there would be a lot more shot dead, assaulted or injured motorists.

'Shot dead'!! I hope not!! I'm sure Americans would soon adapt very well if they had to cope with road conditions like ours. I don't know of any particular rule in these situations. I think it's more a matter of sizing up the changing situation as it develops. And always being prepared to give way.

Left-hand drive cars are very rare here in the UK.

narrow streets are common where I live too - and as localdriver responded - there doesn't seem to be any rule per se. It's just sizing up the distance, parked car positions, speeds etc at the time and feeling one's way through it.
