Larry Holmes still has the distinction today of being the longest reigning world heavy weight champion in boxing history (1978-1985), second only to Joe Loius. @warrior288 I see what you're trying to say. But you made a boo boo. Joe Louis was the longest reigning champ. Larry had it for 7 years. Not bad and one of the longest reigns in history.
When Joe Louis asked Lena Horne, with whom he was then having a relationship, to keep score for him at a Hollywood golf benefit, the singer refused -- she was entertaining troops that day. Joe hit her with a left hook. Then he started to choke her. In his 1978 autobiography, written with Edna and Art Rust Jr., Louis said that the only thing that saved Lena's life was an aunt in the next room who threatened to call the police
Louis got the shaft by the government. It's a shame after as much as he had done for the country while he was champ he went to his grave in debt to the fucking IRS. The man would donate entire purses from his fights for the war effort, THEN get taxed on those purses! Donate to the government and get taxed. What the fuck is that all about?
