It was a week before Christmas, 1942, and 21-year-old Joseph Doherty didn't flinch as he was drafted to join U.S. forces in Europe during World War II.
"It wasn't a big deal to me," Doherty, now 86 and a retired grandfather, said from the liv ing room of his Brockton home Tuesday. "It was just, you had to go, you went, and that was the whole story."
His war story began at City Hall on Dec. 17, 1942, when Do herty gathered among a group of 31 men at City Hall 65 years ago this week.
