Ian Page organized an event called "The End of Televison". The basic idea was to solicit movies around this theme & to then pirate broadcast them on analog tv on June 12, 2009 as all tv broadcasts in the US switched over to digital - thus leaving the analog stations temporarily unused. Various circumstances congealed & Pittsburgh's Sound/Unsound Trio + Chicago's Valentine Trio + Pittsburgh's HiTEC (Histrionic Thought Experiment Cooperative) all performed live to begin the pirate broadcast. This happened simultaneously with the last game of the Stanley Cup ice hockey championship. Since the event was happening in Pittsburgh, since Pittsburgh is a very sports-oriented city, & since the Pittsburgh Penguins were finalists for the cup, the whole evening was infused with Pens mania. It occurred to me while editing this footage that groups like HiTEC present odd-ball sports - ie: events of prowess for hyper-intellectuals. As such, this was another GREAT MOMENT IN ODD-BALL SPORTS. Note that this edit is a reduction from the 1:58:35 of the full documentary - with emphasis on sports-related scenes. The Pens' winning is celebrated near the end of HiTEC's Systems Management - after 2 versions of the "Getting It Out Of Your" System. - July 1, 2009 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
the extended version is even MORE amazing!
