  • Towwrecker my light came on the day i replaced the battery in the key fob would this make the light go on or would it be something else cheers from the uk ive a ford focus thanks,,

  • @colscopters is it your service engine light , or your security light that came on ? if the latter you may have to re-program the fob to the car , thats common , and easy , just google for instructions , then follow them ...

  • @colscopters also on those the fuel cap has to be a perfect seal , or the check engine light will come on , did you re-fuel right before the light came on ? if so clean the seal on the cap , add a small amount of petroleum jelly to the rubber seal , install cap tight , and re-set the computer , this is common also ..

  • so say if its a severe repair and i clear the check engine light.... will the light come back on or just let it be til car breaks down?

  • @joeymacintosh the light will come back on if there is a major fault code , and work as normal , this trick will turn the light off till the computer sees a prob , and it will come on again , on newer cars things like leaving the fuel cap off , or poor quality fuel can set the light off , and this can fix that for free , they charge high $ to scan a computer at the garage , so this is a check and see thing , if it stays off , it was something stupid , if it comes back find and repair ...

  • @wolfieuk2000uk this will turn it off , but if it is a reoccurring problem , it will come back on ...

  • Thanks this worked great for me,1998 ford explorer!

  • get er done

  • Many thanks great stuff towrecker you are a star thanks,,

  • Actually you saved me thousands, I was searching for a new car because of that check engine light problem. After factoring in the age of the car and thinking about how much it would cost to solve the problem wouldn't have been worth fixing that car. Now I can do better things with that money and sleep better at night.

  • You saved me hundreds of dollars. I drive a 1999 Ford Crown Vic. My check engine light started flashing and then became solid. Two possible causes were dirty gasoline and low transmission fluid. After adding transmission fluid and Heet to the gas tank, the car runs like a champ. I disconnected the battery, held up the connectors apart for five-seconds and touched them together. After starting the car, I noticed the check engine light is now out. I'll let you know if a change occurs. Thanks!!!
