The strap is an Armour Strap. It means it has a micro fibre of steel running through it to protect it from being cut in crowds. I use to use it on more expensive rigs like the D3x. I'm sure if you type in Armour Strap you will find it.

Results from a moving car or bus are not always what you expect to see on your pictures. To guarantee you stop te action, I would use Shutter Priority mode. Adjust the shutter speed to something that will stop the action - say 1/500th of a second, and go from there. Hope this helps, keep taking pictures.....
