And the conductor, Hans Swarowsky, built the tension magnificently, and released it at the end explosively, leaving me stunned. Kouba shows here as a superb singer, who was also gorgeous top-to-bottom, a rare combination and very appropriate for the role. Patzak has a distinctive nasal voice, also a great contribution to this excerpt.

me too. If Maria Kouba was singing today, she would have the world at her feet. How things have changed. It's also mostly a question of marketing. Sometimes the best singers are not as well known as the "stars".

Perfect! I enjoyed this video very much. I must admit I prefer Maria Kouba in this role to sopranos such as Leonie Rysanek and even Birgit Nilsson herself.
