As yet unseen footage of the first stable version of levelHead, an augmented-reality spatial-memory game by Julian Oliver.

This is a spoiler for the first 3 cubes: the relatively easy red cube, the tricky green cube and finally the very difficult orange cube (dubbed the 'Apartment').

Don't watch this if you want to solve them yourself!

  • It certainly opens up a window for ideas... but if it's just a case of making a man walk through rooms, it's kinda boring to play really.

I don't wish to run it down because it's amazing to watch, however...wouldn't it be a whole lot better to have 6 mini flat screens on the cube itself so you can play with the cube anywhere and don't have to sit infront of a tv screen to watch the cube?

I'm sure it's going to be massive one day :)

  • I chose not to do this for thes reasons:

Each LCD screen on each cube face would require a camera in order to calculate the viewing angle of the player's face or else there would be no sense of depth: Each room would appear 'flat'.

Inside the 5x5x5cm cube there would need to be a entire gaming computer with a dedicated graphics card, battery, cooling fans and a 3D accelerometer.

A solid cube, webcam and a desktop computer has proven to work well in festivals, exhibitions and expos.

  • A great example of use of Augmented Reality, I think to do something similar in my completion of course work. Congratulations to the participants in this project.

  • Ótimo exemplo de uso da Realidade Aumentada, penso em fazer algo parecido no meu trabalho de conclusão de curso. Parabéns para os participantes deste projeto.

  • @bharathp666 I only just discovered AR a few days ago and I have to wholeheartedly agree. The obvious missing piece is the headset that I suppose could connect to a cell phone with a camera (or 2) on it.

  • Quite a brilliant application of technology and maths!

I noticed the image flickered a few times, such as when the cube is being flipped.

Would it be smoother if the computer rendered what would appear on 5 sides of the cube, instead of just the face that the camera could see?

There should be enough information on any face of the cube to determine the location and orientation of all the other sides, therefore, rendering all visible faces shouldn't be too much trouble, right?

  • This probably is the best AR product by far...

  • ... I would add.. of all the people having their own conversation going on... This innovation is bigger than the any recent technology !!

  • "Spectacular"

  • escher would have an orgasm =p

  • Its going to be a free game
