Joe Suglia, come back when you have written a compelling novel. Hack.

It seems odd that you would use such an argument to diminish the creative merit of a writer who has *already* proved that he can write "a compelling novel".

Is this book worth reading? Does it actually change the meaning of the street of crocodiles?

Here, one discovers that the Verbs: 'To Be' or "To Have' do not actually exist and are inventions because these things are not supposed to be composites anyway.

Only the Verbs "being" and "having" exist, yet this is never taught.

Loved Everything is Illuminated and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. I'm dubious about this one, but curious. It's almost $50 for this book...perhaps a trip to the library is in order.

The story -- if that is what it is, perhaps dream or quilt of recollections is more appropriate -- is extraordinary. If you are familiar with Street of Crocodiles, your memory of that text will be part the experience of reading Tree of Codes. However, there was a moment part way through where I stopped thinking about this story's inarticulate-able relationship to Schulz and became fully absorbed in the compelling narrative that Foer managed to excavate.
